Cafeteria Information

Start your child's day with breakfast and let the CLS cafeteria help you!  Students can purchase and must consume breakfast in the cafeteria (not in the locker room or senior lounge, etc.)  Ala Carte breakfast items will be available for purchase:  cereal bars, low-fat muffins, fruit snacks, milk and OJ.  This will be available from 7:30 - 7:50 am.  Charges will not be accepted for these items.

Lunch Payment Plans

Freshmen Parents only:    As part of the Freshmen Ancient and Medieval History Class, a special meal is prepared for the freshmen class.  These meals consist of food items typical to that era.  A charge of $8.00 is required from each freshmen to cover the additional cost of these meals.  This charge is to be paid on Book Day.

Students may pay for lunch on a daily ($2.50) or weekly basis (depending on how many days in the week).   Lunch will not be served on exam days, Olympic Day or the end-of-the-year picnic day.  Other options are:

Pre-Payment Plans:

**All students who qualify for the reduced lunch program are requested to participate in the Prepaid Plan in order to preserve anonymity (Annual Prepaid Plan = $62.80/Quarterly payment due = $16.40).

ATTENTION:  Due to Health Dept. regulations, students are not permitted in the preparation area.  Therefore, students will not be allowed to use the microwave.

Cafeteria Fee

$144 Cafeteria Fee per family is due on Book DayThis fee can be earned back by helping in the cafeteria for 36 hours during the school year.   This is a great way to meet other parents and be a part of the CLS community.   We also have quite a few dads who volunteer on a regular basis.  Just complete the cafeteria volunteer form and turn in on Book Day.   The cafeteria fee is necessary to cover continuing increases in both food and labor costs.

Cafeteria Volunteer Information

  1. Volunteers should report to the cafeteria by 9 am on their designated day.  Please call the school if you will be late (859)291-7044.

  2. All workers are expected to remain until all of the work is completed.

  3. Unfortunately, no children are permitted to attend along with you.

  4. Volunteers will work under the direction of the cafeteria staff in preparation of meals and complete cleanup including pots and pans and all dishes.

  5. Volunteers will be a given a free lunch.

  6. Volunteers will be called prior to each workday to remind you of your commitment.

  7. If your designated day falls on a day that school is not in session, or if your are unable to work on your designated day, please call Judy @ (859)441-3249, the volunteer coordinator.

  8. We need a minimum of 3 volunteers each day in order to serve the students a nutritious meal.  Absences cause an extreme hardship in the serving of meals.

Preferred day of the week to work: (please circle)  Monday      Tuesday        Wednesday        Thursday         Friday

Preferred week each month:  (please circle)  1st week      2nd week        3rd week        4th week        5th week

Please also let us know if you would be willing to sub for someone else and which day you would be available or if you cannot commit to the same day each month but willing to work on certain days (like your days off or vacation days that we are in session, etc.)

A sign-up board for cafeteria workers will be available on both Book Days.  You can either mail the cafeteria form back to school or bring in on Book Days.

All cafeteria volunteers must attend the Virtus Training, have a background check completed, and have read & signed the acceptance form "Diocesan Policies & Procedures for Addressing Sexual Misconduct" as per diocesan policy.  If you have already completed this at another Kentucky parochial school or parish, you can add Covington Latin School to the list.  You do not have to take the classes over again.

Please make checks payable to CLS Cafeteria.  There will be a $25 fee for all returned checks.

Lunch Charge Policy

Any student that need to charge a lunch must come to the cafeteria in the morning before homeroom or at the 10 minute break and fill out a charge slip.  If the student chooses not to comply, then he/she must go to the end of the serving line to complete the charge slip.  All prepaid, cash-paying and pre-arranged charging students will be allowed to precede any student that chooses to do an in-line charge.  This will allow the lunch line to move faster and more efficiently.  There will be no exceptions.

All charges must be paid by the following school day.   If the charge continues to remain unpaid, disciplinary action will be taken.   No student who needs a lunch will be denied a meal.  An alternative meal shall be defined as a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and milk.  (This meets the FDA requirement that a meal contain three of the five food groups.)  In the rare event that a student accumulates three unpaid charges, the student's parents will be notified and a request for payment will be made.  However, as long as the student has three unpaid charges, any charge request will result in an alternative meal.

In order to maximize your student's lunch period, we strongly urge you to consider the prepaid lunch program or to pay in advance on a weekly basis.  Menus for each month are included in each monthly school mailing or on the school's website.
