Covington Latin School is a Catholic, accelerated
college-preparatory co-ed high school offering a
unique four-year program for academically talented students of the Northern Kentucky and
Greater Cincinnati areas. As its central purpose, Covington Latin School aims to
form Christian leaders by challenging its students to attain their academic, intellectual,
social and moral potential. The school's commitment to acceleration, or
grade-skipping, allows bright sixth or seventh grade students the opportunity to begin
their high school career. For many of these students, acceleration offers a more
challenging and rewarding educational experience than a regular grade process.
Since its inception in 1923, Covington Latin School
has operated under the auspices of the Roman Catholic Bishop of the Diocese of Covington,
Kentucky and is fully accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

The Prep Year
Latin School also provides a program designed to complement the
traditional four-year college prep curriculum. Dubbed the "prep year",
this program offers parents the option of enrolling their child in a preparatory year
which provides a transition from the fifth or sixth grade to the Latin School freshman
year. It can ease the transition for sixth graders who need an additional
year to develop and mature or it can prove to be an exciting challenge for bright,
motivated fifth graders.
Eighth Graders Advancing to Sophomore Year
Occasionally, a bright eighth grader develops an interest in our accelerated
program, and inquires about the possibility of advancing through the ninth grade.
This option can be managed with additional time and commitment on the part of the
student. The eighth grader must provide evidence of advanced academic learning
-- a minimum 9.5 grade level score on any of the local high school entrance tests is a
good indication. Successful completion of a full year of Algebra in the eighth grade
(plus taking our end of the year Algebra I exam and passing) and completion of Latin I
prior to the beginning of the school year are required. Testing out of other areas
of the ninth grade curriculum is also necessary during the course of the school
year.
Covington Latin School admits academically qualified students without regard to gender, race, color, creed or ethnic origin.
