Covington Latin School,
providing a classical, Catholic
educational foundation for the future
revised 06/26/08
Why CLS?
1. For eighty-five years, our philosophy and curriculum has and continues to promote moral integrity, academic excellence and commitment to service in the Catholic faith tradition.
2. Our 2008 graduating class of forty-two students earned over $5.3M in scholarship offers, averaging over $126,000 per student. We consistently have 100% college placement and our students' standardized test scores (ACT or SAT) are consistently in the top 10% in the nationally.
3. CLS was ranked the #1 private school in Northern Kentucky by Cincinnati Magazine in August, 2007.
4. Our selectivity ensures that our students will be surrounded with other academically inclined and motivated students who bring out the best in each other in and outside of the classroom.
5. Combined, our 28 faculty have 465 years worth of teaching experience, with the average CLS teacher having taught for over 17 years -- 23 of the 28 have an advanced or terminal degree.
6. Research reveals that gifted students are more academically and emotionally advanced than their peers. It follows, therefore, to recognize that readiness, rather than age, should determine grade placement. Our acceleration allows students to move at a much more appropriate pace for their individual needs.
7. CLS has a 10:1 student/teacher ratio, resulting in a high degree of individualized attention.
8. CLS has over twenty extracurricular groups, such as ski club, bowling club and yearbook, in addition to fifteen athletic teams, which offer students an array of events and activities outside the classroom. Dances and service opportunities are also extremely popular.
9. CLS has never turned a student away with demonstrative financial need. With a financial aid budget exceeding $200,000, we ensure that no qualified student will be denied the CLS experience.
10. The financial reality of acceleration is, it saves a year or two of private middle school tuition and provides a jump start on college tuition -- where the annual increases can be substantial (the average private college increased $1,404 in 2007, according to the College Board).
