When I look back on my years at Covington Latin School and think about how they have impacted my life, two aspects come to mind: the strong academic preparation and the unique opportunities for being involved. The rigor of the academic program challenged me and prepared me well for college, graduate school, and my career; I attribute much of my success to the preparation I received at CLS. In addition to the strong academic preparation, so many unique opportunities were available, allowing students to get involved in all aspects of the school and the larger community. From volleyball to student council, St. Patrick’s Day parades to Christmas parties for charity, Latin conventions to the senior class play… the opportunities for involvement seemed endless! I took something away from each of these experiences, and I think that offering such a wide range of experiences is part of what makes CLS such a special place.
For me, one of the most important things about Covington Latin School was the supportive school community, where it was always evident that teachers and mentors really cared about the students. This support was not confined to academic settings; I remember frequently seeing teachers cheering us on at athletic events, chaperoning extracurricular activities, and generally connecting with us outside the classroom. Even today, I still feel the support of these mentors both in my professional life and personal life, and it’s these relationships that I value the most from my years at CLS. Covington Latin is a really special environment, and I feel lucky to be a part of this community.
